Dear Parents/Caregivers, Students, Staff, and Friends of Saint David’s Parish School,
National Reconciliation Week – ‘Bridging New to Next’
On Monday 2 June, we concluded our celebration of National Reconciliation Week whose theme of, ‘Bridging New to Next’ with Community Prayer followed by morning tea. We were thankful that several families were able to join us for the morning’s celebration. Our scrumptious food was provided by Year 12 Kildare College students, who not only prepared the food, sourcing native Australian ingredients, but served it to our guests as well. Special guests included, Uncle Ivan, Senior Aboriginal Elder. Our Student Voice then had the opportunity to work with Uncle Ivan, to design a future mural for our school. All students were also involved in an interactive dance performance last week, with Clifford Wilson. Students were actively engaged in learning a few native animal calling sounds along with some dance moves portraying these animals.
Staff News
This week, we welcome back Mrs Amanda Paleologos, Italian teacher who has returned from her recent travels overseas. I am sure she will have many stories to share with our school community!
Earlier this term, I announced the retirement of Mrs Mim Everett, Director of Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) and I am pleased to announce that Mr Zav Totani, has been appointed as the new OSHC Director. We look forward to welcoming him officially in the next few weeks.
Banjo’s First Birthday Competition
It seems hard to believe, Banjo has turned 1! We introduced Banjo last year to our community as a wellbeing dog, and since his arrival, he has made a great difference to many members of our community. In our recently advertised Banjo’s First Birthday Competition, we received over one hundred entries. All entries were beautifully crafted, with lots of thought going into each entry, making the judging challenging. Our winning entries will be announced next week.
Staff Retreat
Tomorrow, staff will gather for a special Staff Retreat at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, a serene and beautiful location, that will provide a reflective setting for the day. The theme of our retreat, "We are a Pentecost People, Pilgrims of Hope," speaks to our collective journey of faith, renewal, and inspiration. It is an opportunity for staff to pause, come together, and deepen their shared commitment to hope and spiritual growth.
As this retreat will take place offsite, the school Office will be closed for the day. OSHC will remain open as usual, ensuring continuity and care for our students.
This retreat is not only a chance to strengthen our sense of community, but also to reaffirm our mission and values as educators.
With every best wish,
Leader of Learning, Diversity and Wellbeing
In Maths Lab, students have been diving into exciting number challenges and sharpening their problem-solving strategies. They have explored algebraic reasoning with missing number puzzles and developed quick mental strategies for addition and number facts. Through hands-on activities, students have practiced using number lines to justify solutions and crack tricky problems involving multiplication and patterns. They have also tackled real-world maths, using money combinations and explored the fascinating properties of numbers—including multiples, factors, primes, and even square and cube numbers. For Upper Primary students, the adventure continues on the planet Vuvv, where they're investigating the seven mysterious moons and calculating the time between each thrilling super-eclipse. It's been a fun and brain-boosting journey through maths, full of logic, creativity, and cosmic curiosity!
Children's University
The Children’s University group, made up of 45 enthusiastic students, has been working hard on a variety of exciting learning adventures. They have explored everything from theatre productions and tree climbs to museum visits and creative art classes. Each activity helps them earn time towards their Children’s University passports, which they proudly track. It's been an inspiring journey full of fun, discovery, and unforgettable experiences.
Oliphant Science awardsThe Oliphant Science Awards are just around the corner, and nine eager students are busily bringing their creative ideas to life. They are working on an exciting range of projects, including posters, programming apps, robotics, models and inventions, and even photography. Each student is exploring real-world science in imaginative ways, ready to showcase their work with pride. It’s an inspiring time full of innovation, curiosity, and hands-on learning.
ICAS
The ICAS competition is taking place this August, offering students the chance to challenge themselves across a range of subjects including Writing, English, Science, Spelling Bee, Mathematics, and Digital Technologies. With entry fees of up to $24.95 per test, students can choose which areas they would like to compete in. These nationally recognised assessments are completely voluntary and designed to stretch even the most capable learners. Entries close on Monday 28 July, at 11:59pm—don’t miss the opportunity to take part in this exciting academic challenge.
Kind Regards,
Sacramental Celebration

All families are welcome to gather for this Mass, to celebrate Confirmation and First Holy Communion, with our Sacramental candidates and their families;

Delilah, Eloise, Riley, Amelia, Pasquale, Sera , Alba,
Valentina, Cohen, Carter and Francesco.

Pentecost
Pentecost is the day when God sent the Holy Spirit to Jesus’ friends, the disciples. In 2025, Pentecost falls on Sunday, June 8. Pentecost falls fifty days (seven weeks) after Easter, marking the descent of the Holy Spirit onto the assembled friends and followers of Jesus, and beginning a whole new chapter in salvation history. That day, thousands of people became followers of Jesus!
O God of clear light and running water,
You send your Spirit to blow where it will.
Open our hearts to receive the breath of the Spirit that we may breathe anew as your Spirit changes our lives.
We ask this prayer in the name of Jesus and
in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Amen
A reminder about our Term 2 Family Mass – If your child is coming to this Mass and would like to read, or be part of a procession, please let me know.

Join us for a great night of music, fun and friendly competition! Our Music Bingo & Trivia Night, is the perfect chance to gather with friends, have a laugh, and enjoy a trip down memory lane. We will be playing classic hits from the 60s, 70s and 80s, as well as favourite TV theme songs and show tunes from well-known musicals.
Between each round of music bingo, we will throw in some quick mini quizzes to keep things lively. You don’t need to be a music expert – just come along ready to have fun! There will be prizes, good company, and plenty of chances to sing along. Get your tickets now and bring a friend – it’s going to be a fun night out for everyone!
Music Bingo (or singalong bingo), is a fun and interactive variation of traditional bingo, where instead of numbers, players listen to snippets of songs. The host plays short segments of different songs, and players mark off the corresponding songs on their bingo cards. The answers are right in front of you. The first person to complete a full line (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) shouts “Bingo!” and wins.

Continuing on with the theme of Week 3’s School Newsletter article, this week’s focus is on some of the resources available for supporting girls in their development.
As mentioned in the last newsletter, husband and wife duo, Kasey Edwards and Dr Christopher Scanlon, have also co-authored a book, ‘Raising girls who like themselves’ which continues to receive positive reviews worldwide: Raising Girls who like themselves
This dynamic duo are parents of two daughters and live in Melbourne. They have spent many years gathering and dissecting academic research and interviewing leading world experts in the fields of child development, psychology, wellbeing and education. Their findings have been compiled into this great resource book for parents/caregivers, providing proven and practical approaches for raising children happy to be themselves.
Lisa Damour’s book ‘Untangled’ (a New York best seller) is another excellent practical resource for parents/caregivers currently navigating the tricky road of adolescent transition to adulthood:
On Lisa’s website, she also shares information regarding some of her other works, including podcasts. Lisa Damour, PhD
We hope you find these resources not only useful, but very helpful in navigating your own individual journeys of developing healthy and resilient girls.
SAPSASA Soccer Carnival
On Thursday 22 May, 54 of our students took to the fields at Modbury Vista Soccer Club, to represent our school in the annual SAPSASA Soccer Carnival. With 6 teams entered across the day, our students demonstrated not only their soccer skills, but also their teamwork, resilience, and school pride.
The weather couldn’t have been better—sunny skies and mild temperatures set the stage for a brilliant day of sport. There was a buzz of excitement as teams faced off against schools from across the district. Many goals were scored, plenty of laughs were shared, and our students embraced every challenge with enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
A huge congratulations goes to our Girls A Team, who were crowned Division 1 champions after a series of strong performances. Their success was guided by the expertise of Paul, who generously volunteered his time to coach and support the team—thank you, Paul!
We would also like to express our sincere thanks to the staff members who attended on the day and worked behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly. Your support and supervision were invaluable. A big thank you also goes out to the parents and caregivers who came along to cheer on our teams, your encouragement from the sidelines created a wonderful sense of community, and was greatly appreciated by both students and staff.
Overall, the SAPSASA Soccer Carnival was a huge success, and a memorable day for all involved. Congratulations to all our players, you represented our school with pride, positivity, and passion. We’re already looking forward to next year!

SAPSASA District Selections – Congratulations!
We’re thrilled to celebrate the outstanding achievements of several of our students who have been selected to represent our district in SAPSASA sports!
A huge congratulations to Sienna T (Year 5), who was chosen to represent the district in Softball earlier this year, during Term 1. We also extend a big congratulations to Iyla M (Year 6), Sloane W (Year 6), and Isla B (Year 5), who have been selected for the District Netball Team, which will compete later this term. What an incredible honour! These students have shown great commitment to their sport, and have a bright future ahead.
Well done to all four students on your amazing accomplishment.

Service Provision in Schools
As a part of our commitment to our mission and values, to working in partnership to enable each learner to thrive, and to ensure the health and safety of all people on school grounds, our school is implementing a new process for requests from families for Privately Engaged Service Provision in school, including National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) services.
This applies to new requests for Privately Engaged Service Provision in school, as well as to requests for existing Privately Engaged Service Provision in school to continue.
If you wish to make a request for Privately Engaged Service Provision to occur in school, please complete the attatched Parent/Guardian Request Form, and return it to the Front Office for consideration, at your earliest convenience.
Saint David's Parish School Child Safe Environment
As you are aware, the safety and wellbeing of every student at Saint David’s Parish School is our priority. Staff, volunteers and essential service providers are required to complete a Working with Children screening. The school induction program also ensures that all persons coming onto the school grounds have the required Child Protection documentation. It is important as a school community that we ensure all stakeholders have access to Catholic Education Child Protection and Policy Guidelines.
You will find these documents on our school website:
Saint David’s Parish School will be introducing a ‘Concussion Officer’. Our Concussion Officer will be Tracy Roberts. The role of the Concussion Officer will be to liaise between parents and school staff regarding known concussions of students (whether they occur during, or outside of school time). The Concussion Officer will be responsible for communicating with school staff regarding exclusion time for sport, PE and overly active play as recommended by the student’s health care professional. They will also ensure that our school is managing any concussions as per the First Aid Procedure and the Australian Concussion Guidelines for Youth and Community Sport.
Please note that the Concussion Officer is not an expert and is not expected to diagnose concussions. Their role will be similar to that of a Fire Warden, in that they ensure the school is following agreed concussion procedures and communicating to school staff as necessary.
If your child suffers a concussion, whether that be during school time, or out of school time, and they seek medical treatment from a health care professional, we ask that you provide a clearance from the health care professional. This clearance needs to be provided to Tracy with her regarding any specific needs for your child.
Just a reminder that the cut off time to order school lunches in the morning on the Qkr! app, is 8:30am. If your child has a lunch order, please make sure it is ordered prior to this time.
The following phone number is a dedicated ‘parent support line’. The number is 7084 1801. The number is manned from 9:30am, but parents can leave a message before then & they will get a return call from 9:30am. This number can be used for parents who have missed the 8:30am cut off, refund queries or help with navigating Qkr!
